Recalibration of Jesus-ness.

From "a new life emerging": ...if Jesus were to show-up today and start over again I suspect he wouldn’t choose current "church leaders" and their religious followers. Jesus would probably choose the taxi driver from Pakistan who picked him up from the airport. Or maybe he’d choose the two Buddhist lesbians in the used-Ford van that reeked of patchouli and Mendocino County buds, who saw him walking in the pouring rain toward the city and stopped and gave him a ride. He’d choose the twice-divorced waitress with cheap lipstick and a broken heart who served the glazed donut and warm coffee at 3am. I wouldn’t be surprised if the tall prostitute in the blonde wig who propositioned him as he left the diner became one of his inner circle and her drug dealing fiancée became his closet companion. Maybe the CPA with a major coke habit and a runy nose would be invited to come along. I imagine the mechanic who owns the gas station and has a wife at home recovering from her third miscarriage who fixed the wiper-blade on the van for "no charge" would join his movement. If we joined the church we'd have to go to their houses to worship. You bring salad; I'll bring the wine.

I woke up dreaming about this for some reason this morning...

my conclusion was this...

perhaps everything in that quote could be true... but... i still don't like the idea of putting Jesus into any modern day culture and pitting him against everything the church condems or everythihng society throws out. It just seems so bumper sticker. So if today society/church/america/whatever disregards group x, then if Jesus were here today he would flock to group X and that is who he would be with. I can't say that its false, but it seems to cookie cutter Jesus into such a tight antagonistic mold.

He came "when the time had fully come" and reached out to those who needed him and apposed those that didn't understand what it meant to live as he intended.

I just woke up thinking that

Ben...
